Bluesky surged to the top of Apple’s App Store on Thursday as users flocked to the platform in search of an alternative to X, following Elon Musk’s endorsement of Donald Trump for president. According to data from Sensor Tower, Bluesky saw a 62% increase in daily active users in the week after the election, adding 1 million users. The app now boasts 14.5 million users, capitalizing on dissatisfaction with Musk’s leadership on X, which has led many former users to seek other options like Bluesky and Meta’s Threads.
Threads also saw significant growth, with daily active users rising 6.8% since the election. The app now has 11 million U.S. users, with more than 15 million signups in November alone, according to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri. High-profile personalities like MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace have also abandoned X for Threads, citing a loss of interest in the platform. Despite this, X continues to see growth, with a 5% increase in daily active users since the election, reaching 25 million in the U.S. Musk touted the app’s performance, claiming it has reached all-time highs in usage.
