Chijioke Ihunwo, the chairman of the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, strongly disapproved of the court decision that stopped Rivers State’s distribution, calling it an attempt to deny the locals their resources. Ihunwo insisted that such a court ruling could not stand and verified that wage payments have started in an interview with The Guardian. He denounced the legal action’s supporters, calling them state enemies who are threatening the government. He also questioned the impact of centralised judicial authority on the average citizen and expressed concerns about former Governor Nyesom Wike’s influence over the judiciary.
Notwithstanding these reservations, Ihunwo reiterated his faith in Nigeria’s Chief Justice and denounced some court decisions as being swayed by outside forces, saying that some politicians erroneously think they have the power to manipulate everyone. “Well,” he added, “we have begun to pay salaries. Such a court order would not stand anywhere. As I’ve already stated, only a wicked and evil person would go to court to prevent the Rivers people from receiving what is rightfully theirs.”
According to him; “We wouldn’t discuss that issue because the state administration has appealed it. Our adversary in this state believes he is God, but he is not. “Wike has also shown that he’s in charge of the judiciary in Nigeria. So, what is the hope of the common man if one man is claiming to be in charge of the judiciary?”
Speaking Further, “What’s their fate when one man has hijacked the judiciary and each morning you wake up to see counter judgements and some Nigerians are clapping for Wike?” “We are watching them, but we have faith in Nigeria’s Chief Justice. The other judges are doing what they have been instructed to do. Wike believes he can buy everyone, but not God.
