Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, has expressed that Donald Trump’s recent victory in the U.S. election will enhance democracy on a global scale.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Obi congratulated Vice President Kamala Harris for her commitment and perseverance throughout the electoral process.
Reports indicate that Trump made a remarkable comeback, securing a second term by defeating Harris.
Obi emphasized that the orderly conduct of the U.S. elections, along with the prompt and transparent results, should inspire Nigeria to move away from outdated practices such as electoral fraud, vote-buying, and violence during elections.
He stated that he congratulated Trump on his return as the 47th President and expressed hope that this victory would strengthen democracy and promote global peace.
Obi also acknowledged Harris’s courageous campaign, noting that the people’s will ultimately prevailed.
He called for collective efforts in Nigeria to restore electoral integrity, ensuring that elections are free, fair, and truly representative of the populace’s wishes.
