The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that several terrorist leaders operating in Nigeria’s North Central zone have shown interest in surrendering and laying down their arms.
This update was shared on Thursday by Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism expert on Lake Chad Basin insurgency, via his X handle, referencing a statement by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations.
During a briefing in Abuja, Buba explained that the military has made provisions for those willing to surrender, acknowledging that the terrorists are aware they cannot match the strength of the military.
“Their options are clear: surrender or face defeat on the battlefield,” Buba stated. “As a result, some terrorist leaders, commanders, and fighters have expressed their intention to surrender. We have opened a corridor for this process,” he added.
