On President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, Vice President Kashim Shettima formally handed over 112 suspects, 73 from Kano and 39 from Kaduna, to the respective governors of their states in a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa. These individuals were among the 119 suspects arrested during the August 1 protests in Kano and Kaduna States. In a message delivered on behalf of President Tinubu, Shettima encouraged the pardoned individuals to seize this second chance to rebuild their lives and become responsible citizens.
In his address, Vice President Shettima urged the released suspects to avoid activities that could incite violence or lead to the destruction of property, emphasizing that the Federal Government is actively working to address the nation’s current challenges. This gesture of pardon, he noted, reflects the government’s commitment to finding peaceful resolutions and promoting unity.
The event signifies a step toward healing and reconciliation, with the government hopeful that these citizens will contribute positively to the nation’s growth.
