Ufoma McDermott shares the dangers of excessive painkiller use after it damaged her kidneys. Read her powerful story.
Nollywood actress Ufoma McDermott shared her experience with kidney disease, attributing it to the prolonged misuse of painkillers.
The actress revealed this during her recent interview with renowned media personality, Chude Jideonwo.
Discussing her 12-year struggle with kidney disease, the actress urged the public to make their health a top priority.
McDermott disclosed that her condition was a side effect of prolonged painkiller abuse and expressed, “I truly hope people recognize the significance of health. My brother received a late diagnosis at stage 4 kidney disease, immediately required dialysis, and faced complications.”
I was diagnosed earlier and have been on medication for almost 12 years now. When my brother experienced symptoms, we went to see my cardiologist together. My parents were worried, wondering if it might be genetic. We investigated the origins of the kidney disease and discovered it resulted from drug abuse.
As a child, I frequently experienced migraines, headaches, and eyeaches. Despite having glasses to help with these issues, I avoided wearing them because I felt they made me look like a nerd. To cope with the pain from my migraines, I’d resort to taking strong painkillers instead of regular ones in hopes of getting relief more quickly.
