Sultan calls on citizens to focus on prayer over criticism, emphasizing that God will address any shortcomings of national leaders.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Mohammad Abubakar II, has urged Nigerians to avoid criticizing their leaders.
He suggested that Nigerians should entrust the situation to God to manage in His own way.
The Sultan emphasized the fleeting nature of all things, urging persistent prayer for both the nation and its leaders.
He reminded the leaders that on the Day of Resurrection, they would be accountable before God with no one to defend them in His presence.
The monarch also cautioned religious leaders not to deceive their followers for personal gain, emphasizing that most adherents have profound trust in their guidance.
He mentioned this at a Regional Conference on Climate Change-Induced Conflicts in Northern Nigeria, which was organized by the Kaduna State Bureau of Interfaith in collaboration with International Alert.
Only God has the power to save us. Devote yourself to worshiping Allah (God) and trust Him with everything else. Be cautious of those who might misguide you. Our nation is confronted with numerous challenges, so we must seek God’s help through prayer. Let’s increase our prayers in both mosques and churches.
“Despite the widespread sentiment that times are challenging, we have faith that relief is on the horizon. Let’s intensify our prayers for our leaders, trusting in God to guide them according to His will,” he said.
He observed that the North confronts challenges such as climate change, poverty, and insecurity, but emphasized the region’s enduring legacy of unity and resilience.
