“When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me,” James wrote VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!”
LeBron James has officially endorsed Kamala Harris in the final stretch of the US presidential election, urging his millions of followers to support her candidacy. The Lakers star posted a powerful video montage to social media, featuring scenes from civil rights movements and the recent Black Lives Matter protests, ending with the message: “Hate takes us back.”
James, a longtime critic of Trump, addressed his endorsement video when speaking to the media following the Lakers’ 131-125 win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.
“I wanted to make sure it was seen, heard, and heard with force,” James said of his decision to share the video after his return to Cleveland on Wednesday.
“Having a daughter, having a wife, having a mother and things of that nature, what (Harris) believes in when it comes to women’s rights that’s what the future with my kids and where I see our country should be. I feel like that endorsement is only right. I mean, come on – you guys know me. It damn sure wasn’t going the other way.”
The video, more than a minute in length, included several out of context soundbites from Trump and featured other headlines accusing Trump of prompting “racist” and “nazi rhetoric.” The video also included clips appearing to show Black Americans being assaulted.
It also included a clip of controversial comments made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe speaking at Trump’s Rally in Madison Square Garden.
Between his Instagram and X accounts, James shared the video and endorsement to more than 200 million combined followers.
James is no stranger to playing a role in presidential politics, having formed the group More Than a Vote in 2020 in response to the racial turmoil and reckoning following the killings of George Floyd and Breanna Taylor More Than A Vote worked with a nonpartisan voting rights group to fight voter suppression.
In 2024, WNBA star Nneka Ogwumike assumed leadership of the nonprofit, which shifted its focus to women’s freedoms.
James endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 election and Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The NBA legend’s support adds to a wave of celebrity endorsements for Harris, which includes stars like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Bruce Springsteen.
