On Saturday morning, traders at Orie Ugba, the major market in Umuahia, were expelled by a combined enforcement team.
Some traders, including those from various regions of the state, defied the Abia State government’s order that restricted human and vehicle movement during election hours.
When OBASANJONEWS visited the market at 10:30 a.m., the enforcement team, consisting of both market and community leaders, was observed instructing shopkeepers to close their stores.
Other traders with their goods displayed on the ground were also observed fleeing from the market to avoid arrest or fines.
A trader named Uche expressed that his disappointment with the outcome of the 2023 Presidential election has deterred him from engaging in any future elections in the country.
Additionally, at Okigwe Road and Uzuakoli Road near Over Rail in Umuahia, some youths were observed playing football despite the Abia State government’s directive.
The local elections across the state were relatively peaceful, despite complaints about late arrivals of materials and accusations of missing result sheets at several polling stations in Ohafia and Ukwa West LGA.
In the meantime, Governor Alex Otti voted at Polling Unit 017, located in Ahiafor Umuehim Nvosi within Isiala Ngwa South LGA, at 12:19 p.m.
