The Senate has announced the postponement of the screening process for ministerial nominees, citing specific reasons for the delay. Read more to understand the implications.
The Senate has delayed the review and possible approval of seven ministerial candidates presented last week by President Bola Tinubu.
The screening, initially set for Tuesday, was postponed because some nominees had not completed their documentation.
Senator Basheer Lado, who serves as the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Senate Matters, confirmed in a statement that the postponement has been made. This decision provides nominees with extra time to complete all necessary documentation and pre-screening procedures.
He said, “The screening has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2024.”
The seven ministerial nominees submitted to the Senate for confirmation by President Bola Tinubu last week include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, nominated as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, nominated as Minister of Labour and Employment; and Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, slated for Minister of State in Foreign Affairs.
The group includes Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Development; Idi Muktar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development; Rt Hon Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Minister of State for Housing; and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, the Minister of State for Education.
The nominees will undergo screening and confirmation by the Senate in accordance with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended).
