Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, has publicly apologized for his regrettable actions towards a Bolt driver who had delivered a package to his residence.
According to a report by Punch, Ikwechegh expressed deep remorse and acknowledged the harm caused by his behavior, which was captured in a viral video that sparked widespread outrage.
“I regret the harm I caused on the Bolt driver and my unintended remarks about the IGP,” Ikwechegh stated in his heartfelt apology. “As a public servant, I recognize the trust placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people. My behavior fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am truly sorry.”
The lawmaker’s contrition comes after he was seen in the video physically and verbally assaulting the Bolt driver, slapping him and threatening to “make him disappear” over a dispute regarding the delivery of goods.
In his statement, Ikwechegh pledged to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the Nigerian Police Force, assuring the public that he supports their efforts to ensure that justice is served and those responsible are held accountable.
“I want to assure the public that I am fully cooperating with the Nigerian Police investigation into this matter. I support their efforts to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible are held accountable,” Ikwechegh stated.
To prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, the lawmaker revealed that he is seeking professional counseling and engaging in community service initiatives focused on promoting respect, empathy, and understanding.
“We must work together to build a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect,” Ikwechegh emphasized, acknowledging the need for a broader societal change.
