A hunter known as Femi has been discovered dead in a forest in the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State, bearing bullet wounds.
Omolola Odutola, the state Police Public Relations Officer, gave a statement on Monday that Femi had gone hunting with an individual named Taoreed on Friday but did not return home.
Concerned about his absence, Femi’s wife alerted the village head, who organized a search party to investigate. The party eventually found Femi’s body in the forest, showing signs of gunshot wounds.
Odutola stated, “On October 26, 2024, a woman named Grace James from Ofemodoko village reported that her husband, Femi, went hunting with a man known as Taoreed, also called Kokoro, but failed to return on October 25 at around 5 p.m.
“By 7 a.m. on October 26, his disappearance was reported to the village head, who then coordinated a search with local hunters. During the search, Femi’s body was found in the forest with bullet wounds on his back and his gun lying beside him.”
She added that efforts to locate Taoreed, who had been hunting with Femi, were unsuccessful, as he and his family had vanished from the village.
The PPRO indicated that an investigation is underway.
“Suspicion arose when it was discovered that Taoreed had fled the village with his wife and children. The body has been transported to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for an autopsy, and the case is currently under preliminary investigation,” Odutola stated.
