Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has called on the Federal Government to introduce food vouchers as a measure to combat hunger and poverty in Nigeria. Representing Ondo South, Ibrahim urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Ministry of Finance to implement a food voucher system to support those facing food insecurity.
Speaking at a press conference in Washington DC, alongside CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and other officials, Ibrahim emphasized that food vouchers would help stabilize the naira, reduce inflation, and provide targeted relief to vulnerable Nigerians. He suggested issuing monthly vouchers of N100,000 to individuals affected by food insecurity and poverty, noting this approach could offer a more direct impact than other palliatives.
