NATO confirmed Monday that North Korean troops have been deployed to support Russian forces in the Kursk region, a part of Russia facing an ongoing Ukrainian assault. The presence of North Korean soldiers marks a notable escalation in North Korea’s involvement in the conflict, raising international concerns about the broadening alliances backing Russiaās war against Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that this deployment violates United Nations Security Council resolutions and intensifies an already dangerous situation.
āThe deployment of North Korean troops represents a significant escalation in the DPRK’s involvement in Russia’s illegal war,” Rutte said, adding that he urges both Russia and North Korea to “cease these actions immediately.”
