In a recent statement, the Presidency claims that former President Obasanjo believes he is the only one sent by God to save Nigeria.”
Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, commented on Monday that former president Olusegun Obasanjo perceives himself as God’s sole appointed savior for Nigeria.
In response to Obasanjo’s assertion that Tinubu assumed power without a plan, Ajayi remarked that Obasanjo views himself as the sole competent leader in Nigeria.
Ajayi stated that the Nigerian president is carrying out bold economic reform programs initially started and later abandoned by Obasanjo.
Ajayi shared on X: “A video featuring former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s interview with News Central Television has been gaining traction across social media platforms for the past week. During the interview, in a subtle critique of the current administration, Obasanjo remarked that Nigeria is led by a President who assumed office without any plan.”
However, this purportedly ‘planless’ president is carrying out a bold economic reform program that Obasanjo had started but left incomplete.
Despite his flaws and messianic complex, former President Obasanjo is undoubtedly a remarkable leader. His administration opened up the economy and implemented essential reforms that should have been continued by his immediate successor.
Many critics take issue with the former president’s self-view as being uniquely destined by God to save Nigeria. He seems to believe that no leader, either before or after him, has met his standards of leadership. To provide context and clarity, it’s important to remember his stance on deregulating the downstream oil sector during his tenure in office.
