Kano celebrates as a woman breaks barriers, joining 43 men as LG chairpersons. Certificates awarded to all elected leaders by the commission.
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has awarded Certificates of Return to the winners of Saturday’s local government elections.
Professor Sani Malumfashi, the KANSIEC chairman, awarded certificates to the 44 elected council chairmen.
Among the newly elected council chairpersons is a young woman, Sa’adatu Yushau Tudunwada. She has been chosen as the Chairperson of Tudunwada LGA.
“The distribution of today’s Certificates of Return represents the final fulfillment of our responsibilities, which we have executed diligently and in compliance with the Constitution and national laws,” stated the KANSIEC chairman.
While speaking to the press, Tudunwada vowed to guarantee fairness for everyone in her local government area, irrespective of their political party affiliation.
Salisu Masu, the newly elected Chairman of Fagge LGA, voiced his concerns about revenue shortages in the council resulting from financial leakages.
He stated, “I will do everything possible to prevent leakages and enhance revenue generation because the information I have indicates that our Federal Government subvention is currently insufficient to cover salaries unless supplemented by state government funds.”
