Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has donated N250,000 endowment fund to New Gate University.
He made the donation at the commissioning of the Informatics and Innovation Complex named after Gen. Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar (Rtd); Abdulkadir Kure 400-sitting capacity Multi-purpose Auditorium, and Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu Library of the University in Minna.
The farmer Governor explained that out of the N250,000,000,N100,000 Million is on behalf of his family and that of late Engineer Abdullahi Abdulkadir Kure while N150,000 000 is on behalf of the Niger State Government.
He also announced that the State government has gotten scholarships from partners, and would extend 50 to the best Medicine students of the New Gate University, adding that the beneficiaries would study in Canada, Dominican, China, and India.
The farmer Governor, while congratulating Hassan Nuhu for making education a priority, he said the establishment of the University is a legacy and his administration would continue to provide the needed support to sustain it.
The farmer Governor challenged the institution to establish the Department of Agriculture being the mainstay of the State’s economy and that the Board of Trustee of the University should own the institution, grow and develop it beyond its founder.
He restated his administration’s determination and commitment to making Niger State the Massachusetts of Nigeria.
The Vice Chancellor, New Gate University Minna, Prof. Sadiq Yusuf in his remarks acknowledged the significance of the newly inaugurated projects, stating that the structures will elevate the Institution’s capacity to provide exceptional education and resources to the students.
The Pro-Chancellor, New Gate University Minna, Hassan Nuhu disclosed that the projects are a testament of the commitment of the Institution to educational development.
He reaffirmed that the University remains committed to producing well-educated graduates that would contribute positively to the growth and development of the State in particular and the nation at large.
The Pro-Chancellor acknowledged the great contributions of all those whose projects were named after, as well as applauded Farmer Governor Bago’s giant strides in all the sectors of the economy.
Former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar represented by Alh. Suleiman Jibril, Former Niger State Governor Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu represented by Prof. Rukayya Rufai and Sen. Zainab Kure who represented the Late Engineer Abdullahi Abdulkadir Kure’s family, in their separate remarks, commended the Management of New Gate University for the honour done to them and assured the Institution of their continued support to its growth.
