….authorities report no suspects identifie.
An attack on an Iranian police convoy in the southern province of Sistan and Baluchestan on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least 10 officers, according to authorities. The incident occurred in Gohar Kuh, located approximately 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) southeast of Tehran. Initial reports described the assailants as “miscreants,” but Iranian state media later confirmed the fatalities. Advocacy group HalVash, which supports the Baluch people across Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan, shared images of a police vehicle involved in the attack, including a graphic photo that showed the bodies of two officers inside.
The attack appears to have specifically targeted two security vehicles, with evidence suggesting that the truck sustained only bullet damage rather than explosive injuries.
Following the incident, Iran’s interior minister, Eskandar Momeni, called for an investigation, describing the event as a tragic loss of life among police forces.
No suspects have been identified, nor has any group claimed responsibility for the assault, which coincided with significant military actions by Israel against Iran.
The region has experienced a long-standing low-level insurgency driven by Baluch nationalists, and the relationship between the predominantly Sunni Muslim population and Iran’s Shiite government has historically been strained.
