Vice President Kamala Harris drew a large crowd at a campaign rally in Houston on Friday, with Texas native Beyoncé joining to emphasize the importance of reproductive rights.
Just 11 days before Election Day, Harris rallied supporters around the Democrats’ abortion policy, with signage throughout the event promoting messages like “Vote for Reproductive Freedom” and “Trust Women.” Harris reminded attendees of Trump’s abortion stance and contrasted her approach by highlighting transparency, both personally and in policy.
“Trump won’t let anyone see his medical records; I gave out mine! And yet they want to get your hands on your medical records,” she quipped to a cheering crowd. Harris then drove home the urgency of voting, “An election that will decide the future of America, including the freedom of every woman to make decisions about her body and her reproductive freedom.”
Beyoncé, alongside her mother Tina Knowles, and fellow Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, took the stage, urging voters to think of the world they’re shaping for future generations.
“I’m here as a mother who cares deeply about the world my children and all of our children live in,” Beyoncé said. Country star Willie Nelson and actress Jessica Alba also appeared, Alba focusing on Harris’s business policies.
Meanwhile, Colin Allred, aiming to unseat Texas Senator Ted Cruz, used his time to promote bipartisanship and criticize Cruz for his Senate record, including the infamous 2021 Texas winter storm flight.
As polls narrowed, the rally also shared stories from families affected by Texas’s abortion laws, adding personal narratives to the Democrats’ push for reproductive rights and amplifying Allred’s commitment to making Roe v. Wade national law once again.
