A yet-to-be-identified man committed suicide after talking to an AI Chatbot named Eliza about his global warming fears in Belgium.
According to DailyMail on Thursday, the man, who was in his thirties, found solace in talking to the AI chatbot about his concerns about the state of the world and he had been using the bot for several years, but six weeks before his death, he began using it more frequently.
The chatbot’s software was created by a US Silicon Valley start-up and is powered by GPT-J technology – an open-source alternative to Open-AI’s ChatGPT.
Conversations between the man and the chatbot began two years ago. He was reportedly increasingly concerned about climate change and found solace in talking to ‘Eliza’.
However, six weeks before his death, the man began using the chatbot more frequently and intensely. He later committed suicide.
