Another achievement has been recorded by engineers of KWASU’s Centre for Sustainable Energy, with the conversion of a petrol powered vehicle to CNG enabled.
While inspecting the vehicle, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali OON who was in company of other Council members, lauded the initiative of the University in seeking sustainable alternatives to petrol to power vehicles.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, who stated that the University was constantly seeking practical ways to alleviate the challenges facing society, said that one of the products was the conversion of scrap petrol engine vehicles to electricity powered and now, vehicles that can run on Compressed Natural Gas CNG.
These steps, the Vice-Chancellor maintained, were in furtherance of the University’s commitment to greener and sustainable environments and to solve key societal challenges.
While answering questions from the Governing Council,Ā the team of engineers of the Centre for Sustainable Energy said CNG offers lower fuel costs than petrol,Ā increases fuel efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and gives a longer engine life due to cleaner fuel.
