Former US President Barack Obama has released his annual summer music playlist featuring two Nigerian global acts.
Burna, who has always made the list in recent years, has his song, “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” captured.
For the first time, Ayra got a spot on the coveted playlist, all thanks to her 2023 hit track “Stability”.
Obama shared the list, which includes songs by Janet Jackson, Jorja Smith, the Rolling Stone, Nas and others.
He tweeted: “Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer—a mix of old and new. Look forward to hearing what I’ve missed.”
The previous year, Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’, Tems’ ‘Vibe Out’ and Pheelz’s ‘Finesse’ with Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Die Hard,’ made the cut as well as several other records from a diverse list of artistes.
Sharing 2022 summer pick, the 44th American president wrote: “Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies—it’s an example of how music really can bring us all together. Here’s what I’ve been listening to this summer. What songs would you add?”
In recent years, Obama’s summer and year-end picks which have visibly shown support for Afrobeats have included Rema’s Iron Man’, Wizkid & Tems’ ‘Essence’, Burna’s ‘Anybody’ and others.
