A prominent figure within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has publicly addressed the actions of the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly. According to Ugochinyere, all 27 members of the Assembly, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, had officially decamped from the party. He emphasized that this move is well-documented and on record. The PDP member further claimed that the lawmakers’ plan had backfired, and now they are attempting to rejoin the party.
While speaking on Symphoni TV, Ugochinyere commented on the situation. He said:
“You left the political party (PDP) upon which you were elected at the time there was no division because your godfather wanted you to decamp so you could attempt to impeach someone with Federal support.” He revealed that the lawmakers’ decision to decamp was heavily influenced by external forces.
He went on to explain the consequences of their failed strategy, saying, “Now they didn’t get the federal support, they were lost in the middle of the Atlantic. Now you want to run back again and say, ‘No, no, no, I did not decamp,’ when you have made an affidavit oath that is on record.”
According to Ugochinyere, the lawmakers’ initial decision to leave the PDP was made under pressure, driven by promises of federal backing. However, with those promises unfulfilled, they find themselves in a difficult situation. Now, as their plans have fallen apart, they are attempting to deny their defection and rejoin the PDP, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Ugochinyere pointed out that their decision to decamp is formally documented, and the lawmakers had sworn an affidavit to this effect.
