As part of efforts to boost security within Aba North and Aba South, the member representing the Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 met with some senior Police officers at the Area Command, Aba.
During the meeting, Hon. Ikwechegh who highlighted the importance of synergy in securing Aba, said his office would continue to collaborate with the Police to ensure they work in a conducive environment.
He applauded the effectiveness of the existing synergy between the Community Policing/Vigilante and the Police especially in Aba South Local Government and called for the replication of the cooperation in the Aba North Local Government to enhance the overall safety of the Aba residents.
He appreciated the officers and men of the Police for doing much despite some obvious challenges.
While welcoming Hon. Ikwechegh to the Area Command, the Area Commander, the Area Commander thanked the lawmaker for always identifying with the Police.
The Area Commander drew the attention of Hon. Ikwechegh to the plight and working environment within the Aba Area Command. Top on the list of needs is inadequate Patrol vehicles, no Amored Personnel Carrier, lack of basic office ICT equipment like Computers, Printers, disconnection from the power grid, leaking roofs, absence of CCTV cameras, high cost of fuel, amongst others.
Hon. Ikwechegh after listening, promised to start with the renovation of the Area Commander’s Office immediately with the Engineers for the work to be deployed by next week, deploy Solar Street lights around some of the Divisions within Aba by next week and start the fuelling assistance immediately.
On patrol vehicles, he promised to factor in the requests into the 2025 Budget proposals of the Constituency hoping the requests could be achieved around March next year. In the meantime, he directed the immediate refurbishment of a Hilux and Sienna operational vehicles of the Command.
While speaking on the accommodation challenges being faced, the lawmaker promised to take-up the deplorable and subhuman condition of the barrack accommodation with the highest Police authorities.
On that same Tuesday, Hon Ikwechegh also met with the leadership of “Ndi Eze Oha Ngwa” (the umbrella body of the Traditional Rulers of the Ngwa Clan) at the Palace of Eze Love Nwogu of Umuola/Egbelu Autonomous Community in Aba North where they presented him with a request to assist them financially to ensure the completion of their multipurpose and ultra modern Council building inside the premises of the Ngwa Cultural Center in Aba, after acknowledging and extolling his sterling representation at the National Assembly.
The Royal Fathers thanked him for the impactful projects that he has provided for the Aba North/South Federal Constituency within 8 months at the National Assembly.
The Lawmaker thanked them for their best wishes, commendations, and Royal blessings.
The Honourable member pledged, to the joy of the Royal Fathers, to undertake the completion of the abandoned project on his own. He promised the project will be achieved early in 2025.
From there, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh proceeded on the verification and inspection of proposed Transformers Installation sites in the Constituency.
This exercise took him to Umuobasi Estate in Ogborhill to Omenazu Street, Nwala Street and other locations in Aba North.
Recall that the Honourable had procured 16 Transformers to be allocated to neighbourhoods with challenges in the Constituency.
