The All Progressives Congress has suspended seven members of the party in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State for alleged anti-party activities.
The suspended members are loyal to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
The party on Friday suspended President Bola Tinubu’s minister, Lokpobiri and its 2019 governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, David Lyon, for alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension extends to the state Commissioner for Power, Kharim Kumoko, Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Peres Biewari, former APC state chairman, Mr Jothan Amos, an ex-officio member of the National Executive Council, Godbless Diriwari and Southern Ijaw APC Youth Leader, Sabi Morgan.
A party stakeholder and APC Chairman, Ward 3 Southern Ijaw, Omiebi Fuoebi, including all ward executive members as well as the APC Ward 4 Southern Ijaw, Mr Claudius Odobu, were also suspended by the party.
In a letter signed by APC Chairman in Sagbama LGA, Jonah Abeke and obtained by SaharaReporters on Sunday, the party announced the suspension of the seven members of the party loyal to Lokpobiri.
The chairman accused the suspended members of openly working for Gov. Douye Diri and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2023 National Assembly, presidential and governorship election in Bayelsa State.
The letter reads in part, “Having considered the report of the disciplinary committee set up in accordance within Article 21.3 (1) of our party’s constitution 2022 as amended, we, the Executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has resolved to suspend the following members for anti-party activities:
“Barr. Peres Peretu (ward 2), Hon. Matthew Karino (ward 13), Major Oputa (ward 7), Hon. Tangi Samuel (ward 12), His Royal Majesty (H.R.M) Bolouyi Sufadoh (ward 10), Hon, Goodluck Ebomu (Ward 13) and Hon. Youdio-wei Benjamin (ward 8).
“Their suspension is supported by the powers conferred on the executive of the party at any level by our party’s constitution 2021 as amended. This action is pursuant to Article 21.1
“Subject to the provision of this article and the right to fair hearing, the party shall have power to discipline members of the party.
“Power shall be exercised on behalf of the party by the respective Executive Committee in line with the provisions here-under, and Article 21.2, a breach of any provision of this constitution.
“Anti-party activities or any conduct, which is likely to embarrass or have adverse effects on the party or bring the party into hatred, contempt, ridicule or disrepute.
“In the 2023 National Assembly, Presidential and gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State they openly worked for Gov. Douye Diri and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party.
“They made no pretences about their anti-party activities, is on this note that we, the under-signed executives of the Sagbama Local Government Area APC hereby suspend them indefinitely from the party.”
“Their suspension is hereby transmitted to the State Executive Committee of our party for ratification,” the letter added.
