A member of the Labour Party, Kenneth Okonkwo, reflected on the party’s capacity before the arrival of Peter Obi, stating that it was virtually non-existent. He emphasized that, prior to Obi, he was unaware of any members from his local government who were affiliated with the Labour Party, indicating its lack of presence.
He warned that party members should be prepared for alternatives, as the political landscape remains unpredictable. He expressed skepticism about the Supreme Court’s outcomes, noting that the law has become increasingly uncertain in Nigeria. Furthermore, he made it clear that he does not support candidates seeking tickets under the Abure-led Labour Party, cautioning them that any ensuing disgrace should not be attributed to him.
He said in an interview with Arise TV, “What was the capacity of the Labour Party before Obi? Before we went in? Zero that I’m aware of. I was not aware of any one person from my whole local government that was a member of Labour Party. So, they have to be preparing for alternatives because anything can happen. If I tell you that I know what will happen in the Supreme Court, then I will tell you that I am not being honest because law is no longer certain in Nigeria. If anybody says he wants to be a candidate and he wants to go under Abure-led Labour Party to pick a ticket, I am saying it: Ken is not part of it. So, when you receive the disgrace that you will receive, don’t call my name.”
