Adediwura Stephen Olanrewaju, one of the stars of Showmax’s telenova, ‘Wura’ is billed to participate in the Asa Day Festival scheduled for October in Canada.
This was made known by the convener of the Asa Day in Canada, Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye aka Baba Asa).
Oyatoye also announced that aside from Adediwura, overall winners of the Ayangalu Drum Festival will also be attending the annual event. Others include Olajide Oyinlola Abiola, Ganiyu Emmanuel, Sunday Olusoga, Peter Aliu, Bisola Omoge Bata, and Alesinloye Posi.
Reacting to the event, Adediwura, who plays the role of Olumide in the telenovela, noted that the move was a welcomed idea.
“I am particularly happy that Omooba Oyatoye has invited the winners too. It is a big plus for the drummers because the Asa Day celebrations will widen their horizons. I also hope to be able to positively impact the programme and network with other stakeholders,” he said.
Continuing, he said, “You know that our drums are not just for music and dancing alone. They convey messages. They inspire people. Some have religious connections. And, depending on the mood, context and the drummers, drums can invoke conflict and inspire peace.
So, you can imagine how glad I am being part of the Ayangalu Festival, especially with the Oonirisa himself, our Kabiyesi Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi , at the vanguard of bringing development to the unique aspect of our culture.”
