Theophilus Alaye, President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, has publicly criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a contentious event in Rivers State. At the event, individuals claiming to represent the Ijaw nation extended an apology to Wike on behalf of Governor Sim Fubara, a move that Alaye has vehemently disputed.
In a live broadcast on Channels TV, Alaye pointed out that no prominent Ijaw traditional rulers were present at the gathering. He asserted that the attendees were predominantly Wike’s political allies, lacking legitimacy to represent the broader Ijaw community.
Alaye expressed disappointment, stating that Wike, whom he once respected, allowed his political associates to undermine his reputation through this orchestrated event. He reaffirmed the Ijaw people’s unwavering stance on political matters in Rivers State, emphasizing their support for Governor Sim Fubara throughout his tenure.
Alaye remarked, “With what just played out in Rivers, Wike has allowed his political sons and daughters to make mockery of him. The position of Ijaw Nation on Rivers State matter remains the same. We are going to support Governor Sim Fubara till he completes his four-year term.”
