Nigerian Lawmaker Ikenga Ugochinyere has strongly disputed a claim made by Rivers State INEC REC Johnson Alalibo regarding the non-receipt of the voters register for the upcoming local government election.
Ugochinyere directly contradicted Alalibo’s assertion, stating that the INEC voters register is already in the possession of the Rivers State Electoral Body.
This contradiction raises questions about Alalibo’s motives and the reasons behind his statement.
Ugochinyere openly accused Alalibo of acting on behalf of the Pro-Wike Group, saying:
Dr. Johnson Alalibo seems unaware of his limits as an INEC official with no role in state-organized elections.
The voters register has been with the Rivers State Electoral Body for some time. It’s surprising he’s issuing baseless statements at this late stage.”
Ugochinyere further emphasized:
“Alalibo’s baseless statement is a last-ditch effort to serve the interests of a particular group. The election will proceed as scheduled on Saturday. His attempts to cast doubt on the election’s preparedness won’t succeed.”
Ugochinyere’s response aimed to clarify the situation, reassure the public, and counter Alalibo’s potentially disruptive statement. By setting the record straight, Ugochinyere sought to maintain confidence in the electoral process.
In a recent post on X, Alalibo’s claim had sparked concerns among voters, but Ugochinyere’s reassurance confirmed that logistical arrangements are in place for a smooth election.
The dispute highlights tensions surrounding the upcoming local government election in Rivers State, with various groups vying for influence.
Ugochinyere’s statement demonstrates his commitment to ensuring a free and fair election, unaffected by external interference or partisan interests.
