In a significant reshuffle of top police leadership, the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Wednesday, October 2, announced the transfer of four Commissioners of Police to various state commands across Nigeria. This strategic move affects the Delta, Cross River, Rivers, and Kaduna State Commands, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations in these regions.
The newly announced appointments include the transfer of CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, who was recently overseeing the Rivers State Command, to head the Delta State Command. In a related move, CP Peter Ukachi Opara, who had just transitioned from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Delta, will now assume the position of Commissioner of Police for Cross River State.
In addition, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala has been entrusted with leading the Rivers State Command, while CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah takes over as Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State.
The announcement was made by Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, who confirmed that the new postings have been officially communicated to the Inspector-General of Police for immediate implementation. The letter formalizing the appointments was signed by the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd).
These changes come at a time when security challenges in Nigeria’s state commands demand renewed leadership focus. The reassignments are expected to enhance law enforcement capabilities and address security concerns across the affected states.
