The Ondo State Government, led by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, joins the Federal Government and Nigerians nationwide in commemorating the country’s 64th Independence Anniversary, marking the historic day when Nigeria gained freedom from colonial rule on October 1, 1960.
Sixty-four years ago, our nation’s visionary leaders, including the indefatigable Chief Obafemi Awolowo, played a pivotal role in negotiating Nigeria’s independence. As a prominent Yoruba leader and founder of the Egbe Omo Oduduwa, Awolowo championed federalism, minority rights, and social democracy. His tireless efforts, alongside those of Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa and other nationalist movements, paved the way for self-determination, unity, and progress.
Governor Aiyedatiwa stated, “As we celebrate this historic anniversary, we reiterate our dedication to creating a united, prosperous, and environmentally sustainable Nigeria. We honor the legacy of Chief Awolowo and other nationalist heroes who fought for our freedom.”
Hon. Adeyemi Olayemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, emphasized, “In line with our administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, we have implemented various initiatives to promote eco-friendly practices, conserve natural resources, and foster community engagement. These initiatives include:
ā¢ā Ā ā Environmental Impact Assessments: Conducting thorough assessments to minimize harm to the environment
ā¢ā Ā ā Public Enlightenment Programs: Educating citizens on the importance of environmental conservation
ā¢ā Ā ā Waste Management and Recycling: Implementing effective waste disposal systems
ā¢ā Ā ā Green Infrastructure Development: Investing in sustainable infrastructure projects.ā
As we move forward, we will continue to prioritize environmental protection and sustainable development, ensuring a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Ondo State for future generations.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Long live Ondo State!
