MEMO FROM THE COUNCIL OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT STUDENT PRESIDENTS
Re: The Controversial Constitution of AIYEDATIWA STUDENT MOVEMENT
Fellow Students, Stakeholders, and Grassroots Leaders,
We’ve all seen the memo flying around social media regarding the so-called “AIYEDATIWA STUDENT MOVEMENT” committee. Now, we’re not ones to stir the pot, but let’s be honest—how exactly does anyone expect to organize a movement for grassroots support without involving the real grassroots? Newsflash: the Local Government Student Union Presidents are the grassroots! Yet, somehow, they thought it was a good idea to leave us out of the committee. Imagine trying to make jollof rice without rice. Yes, it’s that ridiculous!
Let’s be clear: we are fully committed to His Excellency, Mr. Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and his success at the polls. We know he’s for the grassroots, and we are the real deal when it comes to grassroots engagement. After all, students don’t vote at their campuses; they come back home to their local government areas to cast their ballots. It only makes sense that if any movement is going to have real traction, it must include the Local Government Student Unions.
What’s even more surprising is that we expected the SSA to the Governor on Student Matters to do and know better than to oversee this kind of kangaroo arrangement. Leaving out the key players—the real grassroots—just shows a lack of proper consultation and coordination.
So, in the spirit of unity and a touch of good humor, we hereby reaffirm our position: we will not, under any circumstance, be part of any committee that threatens the chances of Mr. Governor’s victory. Leaving out the student leadership, which forms the bedrock of grassroots support, is like starting a car without an engine—it’s bound to fail.
To the architects of this so-called “movement,” here’s a word of advice: next time, when planning something grassroots, don’t forget to include the roots!
Yours humorously but seriously,
The Council of Local Government Student Presidents.
