In a groundbreaking move to modernize the transportation system and reduce environmental impact, the Enugu State Government has unveiled plans to build a massive Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mother station at Ugwu Onyeama. This station, which will serve the entire South-East region, marks a monumental step toward creating an eco-friendly and cost-efficient transportation network.
Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transportation, revealed after a State Executive Council meeting that construction of ancillary daughter stations would begin within weeks, as part of a strategic effort to transition from petrol to CNG. This shift will cut fuel costs by half, reducing transportation expenses for citizens.
Besides introducing CNG buses, the government is also investing in the infrastructure required to ensure operational ease and commuter safety. With plans to partner with private sector investors and Greenville Energy, Enugu is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable transport for Nigeria.
The project ties into ongoing improvements like bus terminals, high-tech bus shelters, and tracking systems to safeguard commuters. With this bold move, Enugu is not just protecting the environment but also delivering affordable and safe transportation for all!
