The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the payment of a N10,000 monthly allowance for corps members serving in public institutions within the state. Additionally, corps doctors deployed under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program will receive a significantly higher monthly allowance of N133,400.
This development was confirmed via a statement on the official social media page of NYSC Ondo, following Governor Aiyedatiwa’s directive during the Swearing-in Ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) corps members. The Governor highlighted the importance of this allowance in helping corps members manage the modern-day economic challenges while motivating them to contribute more effectively to society.
According to a circular issued by the Office of Establishment and Training, signed by Permanent Secretary Mrs. R.O. Dare-Atunse, the governor’s approval covers the payment of the N133,400 monthly stipend for NYSC medical doctors, in addition to the N10,000 monthly stipend for other corps members serving in government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple, expressed gratitude to the governor for this initiative, stating that it would greatly ease the difficulties faced by corps members in the state. He further urged corps members to reciprocate this gesture through increased dedication to their duties.
Pepple also called on other employers of corps members, particularly those in the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and educational institutions, to enhance their stipends for the NYSC participants. He emphasized that this would reflect a shared commitment to supporting the welfare of the corps members across all sectors.
This announcement follows the Ondo NYSC leadership’s advocacy for the restoration of corps members’ allowances, which had involved engaging key government stakeholders, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, and various commissioners.
