In a bold declaration, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe of Cross River has firmly reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dispelling recent rumors of a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His statement comes in the wake of speculation surrounding defections among PDP members in his district, which had led some to believe he might support their move.
Describing the rumors as “baseless” and “mischievous,” Jarigbe condemned the narratives as “a figment of the imagination of political jobbers” intent on distracting from crucial governance issues. “I remain fully committed to the ideals of the PDP and have no intention whatsoever of jumping ship,” he asserted.
His comments arrive amid a notable trend of defections from the PDP to the APC across Nigeria, with several prominent politicians in Cross River, including Elder Jacob Nkpeh Odey, recently joining the ruling party. Furthermore, 27 lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike, have also switched their allegiance.
According to Vanguard, Jarigbe highlighted the unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that those who swiftly defect often do so out of desperation due to poor performance. “Elections are ultimately won through performance rather than party affiliation,” he stated, emphasizing that voters will judge politicians based on their contributions to the community, not their party loyalty.
Reiterating his connection to the constituents of Cross River North, he declared, “Only you have the power to determine my fate.” Jarigbe urged supporters to dismiss rumors and affirmed, “My loyalty lies with you, and my commitment to our shared vision of progress remains unshaken.”
