The Federal Government has announced that all visa applications will transition to an online system by March 1, 2025.
Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed this during an interview on βX Spacesβ hosted by influencer Dr. Segun Awosanya on Monday.
Tunji-Ojo highlighted the establishment of a centralized visa approval Centre aimed at enhancing national security, promoting uniformity, and reducing corruption within the visa process.
βThis centralized visa approval Centre is a significant milestone for this administration. It ensures proper vetting, curbs corruption, and unifies the visa regime. By March 1, all visa applications will be processed online,β the minister stated.
He also emphasized the creation of a harmonized data centre at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC), located at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Sauka, Abuja.
βThe 8.3-petabyte data centre weβve built is one of the largest globally. Previously, Nigeria’s immigration data was stored in private systems, a direct violation of the Data Protection Act. We addressed this by delivering a cutting-edge data centre to securely manage the countryβs sensitive information,β Tunji-Ojo explained.
The minister underscored the government’s commitment to improving security and digital infrastructure to streamline immigration processes and protect sensitive national data.
