Two Catholic nuns, Sr. Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Sr. Grace Mariette Okoli, were abducted by gunmen on January 7, 2025, along Ufuma Road in Anambra State while returning from a vocational meeting.
Sr. Vincentia is a Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Model Secondary School principal, while Sr. Grace teaches at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School. The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have called for prayers for their safe release, although no contact from the abductors has been reported.
The Anambra State Police Command has launched a joint operation to rescue the nuns, with the Commissioner of Police visiting the scene and vowing to apprehend the suspects. The incident highlights the growing insecurity and frequent kidnappings in the state.
