WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA — Donald Trump is set to hold a major rally in Washington, D.C., on January 19, the day before his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States. The event dubbed a “victory rally,” will take place at the Capitol One Arena, which can hold approximately 20,000 attendees. Trump has always preferred rally-style events, where he can interact freely with supporters, joke, and energize the crowd.
The rally, which will be held indoors, comes after a series of restrictions on Trump’s outdoor events following an assassination attempt. The formal inauguration ceremony is scheduled for January 20 at the U.S. Capitol. A promotional email for the event urged supporters to attend, saying, “This is President Trump’s VICTORY RALLY the DAY before being sworn in as the 47th President — the crowd needs to be HUGE!” Security at the event will be tight, as the inauguration is designated a national special security event, allowing for increased federal funds and collaboration with local law enforcement.
In an unconventional move, Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping and other global leaders to his inauguration, bringing both U.S. allies and adversaries into a traditional American political event, although it remains unclear whether any leaders will attend. Upon taking office, Trump pledged to initiate mass deportations, impose significant tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico, and seek a swift resolution to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
