Thailand has officially legalized same-sex marriage, becoming the largest country in Asia to do so. On January 23, 2025, hundreds of same-sex and transgender couples, including notable gay actors, celebrated by registering their marriages in Bangkok.
The law, which uses gender-neutral terms, grants equal rights for adoption and inheritance to all married couples. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra marked the occasion by highlighting the nation’s progress toward equality.
Couples expressed overwhelming joy, describing the milestone as a victory for dignity and equal rights. While Thailand has long been known for its LGBTQ tolerance, activists continue to push for further gender identity recognition to achieve true equality.
