Mojisola Meranda, the newly appointed Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, presided over her first plenary session on Friday, while former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was notably absent.
The session, which commenced at 11 a.m., saw the attendance of a majority of lawmakers representing various constituencies.
Obasa, who represents Agege Constituency 1, was removed on Monday following allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. Reports indicate that he was on vacation in Atlanta, United States, at the time of his removal, and his current whereabouts remain unclear. The former Speaker has yet to publicly address the accusations against him.
During the plenary, Meranda, who has made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, announced the appointment of new principal officers.
In her inaugural speech, Meranda pledged to uphold the principles of transparency, good governance, and the values of the House.
Just 24 hours after her swearing-in, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, formally endorsed her leadership. This endorsement followed a closed-door meeting with key principal officers at Lagos House, Marina, signifying strong party backing for her tenure.
