I am Honorable Martins Niyiola Lawani-Obadofin, a proud son of Ajowa Akoko, from the Obadofin Dynasty, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It is with a heavy heart that I bring to the attention of the Ondo State Government, particularly the office of the Attorney General, the barbaric and uncultured actions that occurred during the just concluded local government elections in our state. It is deeply troubling that, in 2025, election-related violence still mars the democratic process in our state.
The citizens of Ajowa were initially eager to exercise their right to vote peacefully for their chosen candidates. However, this peace was disrupted by acts of violence, molestation, threats, and the outright denial of their fundamental rights. The atmosphere was far from free or fair, and such behavior has no place in our democracy. We have clear evidence of these transgressions and strongly condemn such actions.
We urge the concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate these matters and bring the perpetrators to justice. It is imperative that the election results be declared null and void, as the will of the people in Ajowa Ward 5, Akoko North-West, has been distorted. The good people of Ajowa have spoken loud and clear, and their rights and voices must be respected.
I humbly call on Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), and the Attorney General of the State to urgently intervene. It is crucial that a neutral election is conducted, where the rights of all Ajowa Akoko citizens are upheld and their opinions are respected.
Signed,
Honorable Martins Niyiola Lawani-Obadofin
Senior Special Assistant to the Former Governor of Ondo State on Ondo House, Asokoro, Abuja.
