The Private Security Guard Association of Ghana (PSGAG) has appealed to the government to consider rebranding private security companies to provide better working conditions and benefits for security guards.
According to the PSGAG President, Roland Obibah Mensah, private security guards face numerous challenges, including delayed salary payments, low wages, and lack of benefits.
Mensah emphasized that these challenges can be addressed through a comprehensive rebranding of private security companies by the government, hence the appeal to the president, John Dramani Mahama to hear them.
“We believe that rebranding private security companies can transform us into job hubs, providing opportunities for unemployed youth and reducing unemployment rates,” Mensah said.
The PSGAG is seeking dialogue with the Association of Private Security Organisation Ghana (APSOG) and government security institutions to address the challenges faced by security guards.
In an exclusive interview on Fabea FM’s ‘Me Man Ho Dadwen’ show on Wednesday, 22nd January, 2025, with Apiah-Kubi, Mensah emphasized that addressing these challenges will not only improve the working conditions of security guards but also boost their morale and encourage more youths to take up security guard jobs and abate unemployment crisis, and employ them in the 24hour economy policy in Ghana.
“We are calling on the government to intervene and help resolve these challenges once and for all,” Mensah said.
“We believe that with the right support and resources, private security companies can become more attractive employers, providing better working conditions and benefits for their employees”, he continued.
Mensah concluded by appealing to government institutions, NGOs, stakeholders, companies, and individuals to support the association with logistics and financial resources to help address the challenges faced by security guards.
