A report by SBM Intelligence has identified Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Lagos, Jos, Calabar, Kano, Eleme Junction, and Onitsha as Nigeria’s most dangerous areas due to security threats and road hazards.
Port Harcourt leads with 85 violent crime incidents, followed by Maiduguri with 52 insurgent-related cases and Lagos with 32 urban crimes. The Makurdi-Jos route and the Port Harcourt-Warri road were flagged as highly dangerous due to kidnappings and gang violence.
The report also highlighted severe infrastructural deficiencies, with over 84% of respondents experiencing or hearing of security issues on travel routes, while only 2.4% considered roads very safe. It calls for enhanced security measures, better road maintenance, and strategic interventions to improve safety for residents and travellers.
