Officers of the Nigerian Police have taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, amid a leadership crisis.
A tactical unit from the Rivers State Police Command deployed a special squad, blocking the road’s main section and the secretariat’s entrance with patrol vans. The action has restricted access to the premises and disrupted traffic, forcing motorists to navigate a single lane along the busy road.
The move follows the appointment of Nname Robinson Ewor as Acting Chairman after a Rivers State High Court removed Aaron Chukwuemeka and his executive committee.
Addressing party members, Ewor clarified that Chukwuemeka is no longer recognized as the PDP State Chairman but may continue his role as Chairman of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI).
He also reaffirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State by virtue of his governorship. Ewor urged the public to dismiss any claims suggesting former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the party’s leader in the state.
