Gabriel Modukpe, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) manager in Calabar, has appealed to the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 6, Mustapha Muhamed Bala, to provide security for his staff, who are allegedly facing harassment from the public.
Modukpe made the appeal while leading his management team to welcome Bala, the 32nd AIG of Zone 6. He reported that his staff encounters frequent attacks while performing their official duties, citing challenges such as infrastructure vandalism, non-payment of bills, harassment, and bypassing of meters.
The PHED manager emphasized the need for adequate security measures to ensure his staff can work without fear. He also expressed a positive working relationship with Bala’s predecessors and reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the police to maintain a secure and productive environment.
In response, AIG Bala, through a statement signed by the Zone 6 Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Edim Obazi, assured the PHED team of his cooperation. Bala highlighted that providing security is part of his social responsibility, stressing the importance of synergy between service providers and law enforcement to ensure effective operations. He advised the PHED management to submit their request in writing for further action.
