The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State has condemned Governor Bala Mohammed and state lawmakers for allocating over N3.4 billion for fuel and travel expenses in the 2025 budget.
In a statement on Friday, PRP spokesperson Wada Abdullahi accused the government of prioritizing personal luxuries over pressing needs. He highlighted the N1 billion budgeted for fueling vehicles and generators at the Government House, with N500 million each for vehicles and generators.
“This extravagance underscores the mismanagement of state resources. While families in Bauchi struggle, the government focuses on indulgence instead of addressing citizens’ urgent needs,” Abdullahi said.
The party also criticized the state House of Assembly for proposing N1.4 billion for travel expenses, questioning how the funds could instead improve healthcare and education infrastructure. Additionally, the Bauchi State Secretary to the Government’s office allocated N1 billion for international travel.
“While hospitals lack equipment, schools are underfunded, and roads remain dilapidated, the government prioritizes foreign trips over critical issues,” the PRP stated, warning against continued mismanagement.
The opposition urged residents to demand accountability and reject wasteful spending, calling for leaders committed to serving the public’s interests.
“The people of Bauchi deserve better. It’s time to unite against this culture of impunity and reclaim our state from greed,” the party added.
