Police in Ogun State have detained Iyanu Adedeji for allegedly stabbing her husband, Funsho Jimoh, to death following a dispute in the Gbonogun area of Abeokuta.
Reports indicate that the couple, married for eight years, got into an argument after Iyanu accused her husband of infidelity. During the altercation, the 22-year-old mother of two reportedly stabbed Funsho in the chest with a kitchen knife.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident on Monday. She revealed that after realizing the severity of her actions, the suspect rushed her husband to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, where he was pronounced dead.
Odutola explained, โOn December 30, 2024, at about 12:15 PM, Iyanu Adedeji, a 22-year-old female, arrived at the police station with the body of her husband, Azeez Funsho Jimoh, a 28-year-old male. The suspect claimed the deceased had accused her of infidelity, which escalated into a physical fight during which she stabbed him in the chest with a domestic knife.โ
The suspect has been taken into custody as investigations are ongoing. The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo urged couples to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid violent confrontations.
