Nigerians are expressing frustration as transporters fail to reduce fares following a decrease in petrol prices. Despite a reduction in fuel prices, transport fares have remained high or even increased in some areas.
The recent reduction in petrol prices from N970 to N899.50 per litre by Dangote Refinery and subsequent price cuts from NNPC have not translated into lower transport costs. Many Nigerians have pointed out that transport fares remain higher than before, with some suggesting that greed may be driving the price hikes. Experts also attribute the situation to factors like dollar fluctuations and Nigeria’s reliance on imported goods.
