The Nigerian Correctional Service, led by Acting Controller General Sylvester Nwachukwu is working on a list of prisoners who might receive a pardon from President Bola Tinubu. The list is being compiled by state and FCT prison authorities, focusing on inmates who meet certain conditions, like being over 60 years old, dealing with serious health issues, or having served long sentences—especially those who’ve shown good behaviour. It also includes younger prisoners (16 and under) and those who have been awaiting trial for long periods. This move follows a memo issued on January 17, 2025, aiming to offer a second chance to deserving inmates.
