The Niger State Government has raised alarms over the presence of suspected landmines planted by terrorists in parts of Shiroro Local Government Area.
Authorities are urging residents to steer clear of areas where explosives are believed to have been placed, as a precautionary measure to prevent casualties. The government emphasized that these precautions are vital until the military can safely clear the affected regions.
Bello Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, highlighted the gravity of the situation during a statement in Minna following the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) event. He specifically warned residents, particularly farmers near Basa, to restrict their movement until the military completes its demining operations.
Intelligence reports suggest that terrorists have been planting bombs in the area, escalating security concerns. This comes after a tragic incident on December 19, 2024, when three bomb explosions rocked the Bassa community in Shiroro, killing three and injuring five others.
